Lucky. A car parked on a slipway just like this near me recently. Four people died.

I enjoy being by the water, so sometimes I’ll grab food on a pretty day and eat it at the park near the river. By no coincidence, it’s also right by the boat ramp. SUCH a fun place to be. Always someone doing something spectacularly stupid.

They parked on a slip which had seaweed growing towards the bottom. Locals knew and wouldn’t go near it, but they weren’t local. The car slowly slipped down and went into the water whereupon it floated away. The occupants couldn’t open the doors (water pressure against them) or the windows (electrics and water don’t mix). They managed to open or break one window and call for help. A guy swam out and saved a child, the others drowned. The driver could have got out but wouldn’t leave his children. Moral: don’t park on a slip.

That’s awful.

It’s why I’ll never park near water like that. Even so, I carry one of those window breaker /seatbelt cutter tools in my center console just in case.
